A runners perspective

I hope this blog is of use/interest to walkers, runners and cyclists living in or intending to visit Scotland. Most of my entries below are described as long-distance runs - just because that's currently what I enjoy doing...

CW-LE: Cape Wrath to English Border now done!

From West Linton it was a nice walk over to Peebles as I'd done before with mates Andy, Graeme and Jamie who I'd be joining up with again to continue where we left ofd at Innerleithen for a couple days!
This time, from Peebles I decided to take the high route to Traquair (borders drove road) instead of the tweed bikepath.  So glad I did because I had a chance meeting with an old trail-running friend I'd lost touch with for years, just walking out her house to walk the dogs (knew she'd moved there years ago but didn't know where).  The route by Gypsy Glen over the hills to Traquair was the best bit of walking for many days.

We met up at the Traquair Arms Hotel, where we'd finished 4 years before (blame covid for the delay in continuing!).  Another great day's walk high level to Galashiels.
It was a long day to Melrose, 7pm finish, tent up, find a pub that would serve us food...

Next day we walked to Jedburgh via Border Abbeys Way and St Cuthbert Way.

Got very warm, stayed at Allerton House (fantastic choice by the way!) and got a meal in town and a few drinks whilst watching Man City win the Champions League.

Next day was solo - lots of road but tranquil, picked up Dere Street into the Cheviots with views back over where we'd been walking the last 2 days (Eildon Hills are an easy spot!)
Forecast thunderstorms didn't strike thankfully, got safely to Byrness, Forest View (another good choice!) and got tent up and washing done, going to get fed too!  Perfect.
